Nathaniel Hawthorne Review of “A Golden Thread”

Many thanks to Richard Kopley for his review, “Hawthorne at the Peabody Essex Museum,” just published in Volume 46 of the Nathaniel Hawthorne Review. Kopley, author of several books and an expert on the writings of Nathaniel Hawthorne, viewed the exhibition The Creative Legacy of Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Phillips Collection, at PEM (September 28, 2019 – March 2020).

He writes, “Belloff’s book is exquisite. Its creation must have been a labyrinth of love. The colors of the pages change, as the narrative proceeds, from ivory to tan to bright white. In the tan section, during Theseus’s battle with the Minotaur, the type size and type variety explode. This is a book of discord and abundance, a virtuoso performance by a vigorous and learned artist.”
